Hey guys. some of you may remember me asking about parts compatibility between the xj650 and the 550. well the guy who wanted to sell it wanted 200 and cash up front. now he is sick of me hounding him to cover it up and get it out of the snow so he told me to come pick it up, and pay him 150 when ever i can afford it. ive got all the bikes listed in my sig line, a cb350 waiting for me to pick it up and now i feel like i have to save this bike. im close to 2000$ in debt, have truck, insuance payments and rent. And on top of this i have no room at mine or my dads place to store it. I dont know what to do. I could always part it out too. abybody need 550 maxim parts?

You may not know it, but you're not asking us about a motorcycle problem. You're asking about a life problem, and it's probably one most of us have had.

I've been in this situation. At one point I owned 2 '84 300ZX turbos, a Yamaha XV535 and a Pontiac Firebird, - none of which ran - and was driving a LT1-swapped Mazda RX-7.

I downsized. It hurt, but I had to. In the end, it's just machinery - even if you're attached to it. Sell everything. Sell it for next to nothing if you have to; just get it out of your life, pay down some debt, etc.

You'll be much happier with one project that you can properly feed and care for than 5 that you never have the finances to properly take care of.

Just my opinion; I'm not an authority or whatever - I'm just happy to have my truck and my bike and just be done.

Your in Ontario right? I'm a few (as in many) solid road trip miles away.

Is it in "part-out" condition? My 550 is in pretty good shape, but I am looking for some parts. Only thing is I would hate to cannibalize a perfectly good bike. Of course up there leaving a bike outside is just as bad. Do you know how many miles it has?

Flyn, your absolutly right. I cant aford and done NEED this bike. As me and a buddy mine get into riding it seems that our friends are starting to follow this path too. ive got a few friends that might be interested in restoring it too. Ive loiked at it a few times and i dont know how many miles are on it but id say its restoreable with some work of course id also love to see it go to any of the guys on here who are going to treat it right.

mercuryman, im about 4 hours from thunder bay which is a few hours from deluth. or about 4 hours from international falls.

Hey Flynnski.....any chance you have any parts left over from your 84 Z's? I got an 84 300zx that I'm slowly turning into an AE clone.

Yeah, I'm a car nut, too...

Dang Hogfiddles! You must have a big place for all those marvelous mechanical pets. I'm jealous.

I'd be dragging more with me if I had the space. I sold my Saturn and my 5.0 Grand Marquis two years ago and almost cried when they fork-lifted the Saturn away. I had to sell my '74 Beetle this year when I moved and I did cry about that.

I still have a 1989 Nissan 240SX "Sylvia", and a 1978 VIP Ski boat that I'm in the process of restoring. The 240 has over 300000 miles and is going strong, but my Niece wrecked it so it needs TLC.

I've got room in my garage for at least one more XJ!! yea! Now money...hmm....well

Naah.....I just stuff 'em in where I can and have a bunch of friends who are willing to let me use un-used corners of garages and what-not.

Bobbybonez, if you are going to part it out, I am looking for a good pair of original mufflers that are in good shape.

I've got an alternator bracket bolt (the loooooong stupid one that runs next to the passenger-side valve cover, F&#K that thing), and a timing belt change sticker.

Particularly heartbreaking: They were both AEs. :)

That's me in each of those. I'm full of slow and lousy suspension. :)
