Why would you need an airbox?

You can see in the picture that the back half is missing. it was running okay when i bought it (other than a bad battery) and now it needs a bit of ether to get her going. The old airbox was in rough shape and chewed up with cracks and a hole so i wanted a new airbox also to keep the water out.

on a side note, the exhause was taken off at the midpipe so i know that there is a little less backpressure but i haven't installed the butterfly baffles yet. in a few days (when i get the new airbox) i will be taking off the carbs and bringing them inside to clean them. WISH ME LUCK!!!

Love this build! Just wondering, with the fender like that, is it capable of carrying a passenger still?
