Hey all. A friend of mine just sold me his 84 or 85 XJ750 Maxim. He did a complete restore/rebuild on it a few years ago, now has another bike, and sold this one to me.

It needs a battery (going to try to restore the current one with an epsom salt mix) and a turn signal, and probably the annual carb cleaning in the spring, but other than that, it is good to go. I am going to look at the rear brakes though, in case they've delaminated.

I've ridden a Honda Silverwing, and a BMW R90/6 back in the day. Been a decade or so since I've last ridden regularly, so I'm psychd to have this bike.

Thanks for setting up this great resource!

    Thanks all!

First: I fixed the pic links and took better pics anyway (at least, as well as I could in the cold dark).

Thanks for the VIN link! I am trying to puzzle it out now. My friend says it's from "a year that doesn't exist", i.e. an83 model made in 84 or something.

**Edit** You are right! It's a 700, not a 750. 1FG. Ya see, already I learned the proper size, and extra thing (rear brakes) to check, and how to fix up an old battery.

Cool! Plus, it's an "airhead" so valve adjustments, although required more frequently, are signifcantly easier than the "X." AND pretty much everything that applies to the earlier 650/750s applies to your bike.

See? You came to the right place. Now go dig up a service manual.
