Under cover

    So I am in the process of disassembling a junk motor for the XJ-3D project and I uncover a small mystery

    Attached to the clutch cover are two steel caps, under the caps are rubber grommets and under the grommet is another layer of rubber in the bottom of the hole. The parts do not have an obvious purpose.

    Are they just some type of frequency damper to keep the cover from singing?

    This is so educational, having a blast with this adventure.

    Oh by the way the motor is junk because the PO removed a few minor parts then let it sit outside filling with water and rusting the pistons into the cylinders etc. so RIP this otherwise fine motor, from what I can see there was no reason it should have been abandoned in this way.

    Some Clutch Covers are: "Solid" ( 1-Piece )

    Some Covers have Decorative Accessories:
    Badges / Logos / Cover Caps.

    The Plants with Cover Caps have a Rubber Gasket between the Cap and Clutch Cover.
    Are tightly fitted, ... having Threaded Cylindrical Portuberances which fit through Oil Tight Grommets which mate with Rubber Sealed Donut-type Fasteners mounting the Decorative Piece to the inside of the Clutch Cover.

    I guess I need to be more observant, RickCoMatic is correct the cover is 2 parts with a rubber sheet with an exposed bead on the outside rim.

    The parts I describe hold the outer decretive cap to the clutch cover.

    FJ111200 the motor is from a XJ750 YICS 1982. The 3D is because I am making a 3D digital model of the bike and all the parts. I apologize for the confusion.

    To close the loop the picture is of the clutch cover valance cap and gasket RickCoMatic pointed out to me.

    Warmed my cover up with a heat gun to get the rubber gasket to let go of the cover and cap. The gasket is part of the exposed black ring you can see from the outside.

    Thanks Rick for pointing me to the obvious answer, can’t believe I missed that.
