For a non-YICS engine? Supposedly I am looking at a new one here and it a card-board or fiber like material, not rubber like.

I purchased this on Ebay a while back, it was supposedly NOS for a 1980/81 XJ650. There are no markings on it that I can see.

That's correct. The non-YICS motors utilized a stiff fibre gasket of some sort. The two "half moon" plugs on the right side of the cylinder block are separate pieces; and yes, they're rubber so they aren't really supposed to be as hard as rocks.

The YICS motors use the molded-rubber gasket with integral half-moons.
