I've been going to the following site to check these types of questions out as I've been trying to locate parts for my XJ750RJ

    http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/parts/home.aspx

    XJ650RJ parts as follows:
    4H7-13586-02-00 JOINT, CARBURETOR 1
    5G2-13596-00-00 JOINT, CARBURETOR 2
    4K0-W0045-00-00 BRAKE PAD KIT, FRONT

    XJ650J parts as follows:
    5G2-13586-01-00 JOINT, CARBURETOR 1
    5G2-13596-01-00 JO1NT, CARBURETOR 2 (5G2-13596-00)
    4H7-W0045-10-00 BRAKE PAD KIT, FRONT

Looks like the carb boots #2 are the same and the brakes are different. Can't be certain on carb boots #1, but one would almost think they should work, but ???

No guarantees but logic tells me the only difference between maxim and seca is the frame, mainly the rake. The motors are exactly the same so I would think the boots would fit fine.

The parts list in the xjcd says 2 are the same the other 2 are not.

    meaning?

ok i went to the dealer here's what he said:

they have brake pads for maxim and for seca turbo,
which can i use in my xj 650?
plus the maxims are twice as expensive as the turbo ones.
    what should i do?

Look above to Nick's post The #1 joints are different.
The #2 joints may be the same with the 650j having a number change.
So the #2 joint may work.

xj650rjseca, I wouldn't do the swap until you verify the part numbers match. I have seen the quite a difference between my 650 max and 750 seca. I've no idea on the pad issue. I've seen some with similar pads, and others without any similarity at all. Check the two out on bikebandit.com. That and the Yamaha site. Good luck! Rob.

    hmm ok

anybody know if the seca turbo pads are the same for the seca?
both being double brake systems maybe they are the same? no?

jd: it seems that what fits the maxim in 80-81 fits the seca in 82.
so i will ask what year are the maxim boots they have.

and yes i dint wanna undo my carbs until i have the parts,
b'cause they work fine but have a lot of cracks!

Cracked boots? Check the forum out for another post I just did this week, it mentions how to prolong or even eliminate the need for new boots. As for the pads, my Seca pads do not match my turbo pads.

Did you ever check out the part numbers on Bikebandit or the Yamaha site? There is the one surefire way to tell if they will work, save pulling your old ones and eyeballing them side to side. I would hate to see you pass up on a sweet deal of $50 (which is very reasonable, they are normally $120+ ) when a little poking around could net you what you want. Let us know what you find out! P.S. Post some pics, I'd love to see the countryside you ride in down there, my brother said it was lovely when he passed through 2 years back.

hmm ok i will post more pics!
as soon i get the pc reconfigured...

yea the scenery is very nice.
it's the roads that suck! lol ;)

the manual says there are 4 kinds of pads for xj's 650 and 750.
and i think my prob is not the pads but oill from the forks!

ok hers's a new question i came up with!

would the carb boots for a yics be the same for a non-yics?

speaking of the same engine size of course!

maybe the difference is not wether its a seca or maxim,

but wether is has yics or not!

They would be the same. YICS is built into the head. A special port if you will. The intakes are not involved in any way.
