OK...here we go....I rode my bike all summer and enjoyed every minute of it. I am looking to start a winter project. I have checked the brakes for delamination and checked the valve clearances. Everything looked good so.....I tore the bike apart. I want to get the frame media blasted and painted and do a pretty custom rebuild. I tihnk I'm going to "bob it out". My question is this.....has anybody taken Harley Style Handlebar switches (the type with a turn signal switch on the left side and the right side of the handlebars) and found a way to wire them up so they work on your XJ? I'm not quite sure what it would take but I'm pretty handy with soldering and resding schematics. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thankk

You can spice & switch the wiring around, but aren't those Harley switches for 1" bars ?

I've allready got the 1" bars mounted with the harley switches in place...they look incredible! I just hope I can figure out how to splice them into the current harness. I saw a post for a "simplified" wiring harness and I'm thinking about diving in deeper. I'm just not quite sure how to go from one switch that controlled both the left and right turn signals to (2) switches to control left and right independantly. The more I think about it, it really shouldn't be that difficult. I'll keep you posted.

I'd say get the harley wiring harness schematic and go from there.

+1 McGyver, you need both schematics, even then this mod can have unexpected ramifications (how do I know this?)

My brother has a 2006 Dyna with the 2 buttons and self-cancelling so I'm guessing you need the Harley self-canceller and flasher unit and make sure the "XJ" speedometer gives the right kind of signal to the "brains" for everything to work right.

On a completely different note - the Harley kickstand looks like it's at an impossible angle, but as the bike is leaned over, the kickstand goes into a "notch" in it's bracket, locking it in place.
