Whats a good option for the right side cover missing?

I just picked up an 81 xj650 that im converting to a bobber. Unlike most mine has perfect side covers with tabs and everything. While i had planned on just cutting them up my friend stopped me and now im unsure of how to cover up the battery side. I actually dont mind that it looks a little ghetto like the exposed left side but I am worried about all the exposed cables and relays. Im going to be keeping the airbox so a tray isnt really possible.
Hopefully ill be able to sell the covers i have now to cover the cost of making something to take there place. If not ill just have to sawzall them up like the rest of the bike.
How much are they fetching anyway? Its gonna be tough selling them on here since i just joined but ive always had goodluck on craigslist.
If you have any pics that would be great. Ive actually though about just painting the battery black and kind of hiding it and the wires.

 

A cheapie, temporary cover - get one of them roadside foam signs, incredibly light corrugated plastic, and 4 zip-ties. Scissor to shape.

Add a "TYPE R" sticker for some class.

 

ya know, last night i was eyeing a child crossing sign i have and contemplating cutting out the child image and putting it over it.

 

You could use some diamond plate or get a couple of pvc pipe end covers to simulate a oil tank.

 

or cut a piece out of some diamond plate - depending on your style, i have seen it work out and look quite good.

Adding to what TTR said about the road signs, they are easier to fab and can turn out quite well if done neatly:

IF, ...

Someone will let you borrow their Side Covers; you can take the parts to a Work Shop that has:

a) CNC Duplication Machining
b) GEMINI Wood Carving Duplicator*.

*Wood-working Company

The options would be to have them make you either:
a) A Finished Piece
b) Pattern

The GEMINI Wood Carver would make an Exact Copy of the Cover out of wood.
Possibly with details as intricate at Faux Surround Bezels and Badging.

The CNC Machine would be able to make a part from an assortment of Stock Materials harder than wood.

 

I kinda like the diamond plate idea or something along those lines. It will also give me a place to mount my switches for ignition and such if i go that route.
The pvc end covers may work out as well. I guess ideally id drop the airbox and go from there but I dont want to mess with the pods right now. My bike runs fairly well and its important i keep it that way. I need at least one reliable vehicle.

You can use the vacant bolt hole where the Rear Foot Pegs go to mount a Low-profile Frame Sliders.

Having a Front-case Sliders and Bbar-ends to protect those fine Front Cases wouldn't spoil the look you got going-for-you, there, ... too.

I had a nice initial conversation with Mr. Jim Lohann, ... of Lohann Digital Machining.
He's got Machines capable of fabricating BOTH Stock and Custom Side Covers.

He does Wood, Plastics and Billet.
I have no idea how much he'd charge as yet.
I have to send him a Cover and Dimensions.

I never thought of equiping the bike with sliders. I have piles of them off my race bike that i could toss on.
