I am looking for the stock tank badges that came on 85 maxim x bikes. It is gold with YAMAHA written on it. They do not need to be perfect, just in good used condition. Let me know if you have these and are willing to part with them. Thanks.

Thanks, what I need is the circular ones about 3" in diameter. Gold colored plastic. I am just not ready to pay over $60. for a pair of new ones. I am hoping someone has a trashed bike (some viragos had these too) and will sell them. Here is a link to a picture of one.

If the screw holes are easy to cover I would personally go with the tuning fork logos, just the decals.

There are no screw holes, they were attached by double sided tape. I am thinking of getting collector status for my bike. The tuning fork ones would be a second choice, I have heard they can be picky on stuff like this so am looking for originals.

Your bike looks real good, low miles helps. One thing to watch for is how the rubber grommets between the carbs and airbox can shrink and harden. Do replace them when they start doing that, grit kills. I found out the hard way. I suppose you got those on Ebay, correct?

To get new badges is extremely expensive. Good luck. If you find a good source let us know.

You're right, they are a stick-on...not a bolt-on. Be aware that the 86 maxim-x tank badge was different... it was a long oval that said YAMAHA on it--and those were also on the Viragos. None of my virago tanks had the round gold stick-on, though............

I would be quite happy with a used pair, even with some scatches or scuffing that could be buffed a bit. That is why I mentioned it here....surely someone somewhere has an imperfect pair they do not need. Crosses fingers...:)

When it comes to getting that collector status I have been told they can be quite picky, so I am looking for the exact badges my bike came with first. What NOS source are you talking of...do they have that one I posted? Any tips on how to find a cheap pair of the originals is apreciated.

I have also looked and not found anything. So if you do find a source please share.

Forgiven do you have pictures of your "X" or is it in the process of being restored?

Bigfitz please share the NOS source you mentioned.

    Thank you,

Len (xj4ever) has replicas...not cheap but look original.
I think he only has the gold version. There also came with a silver/gray version on the dark blue color skeme
    IIRC somewhere around $35 each

I bought a pair of these.

Well I got my parts today. Also found a good place to get parts for this bike and others, here is the link. Badges there cost about $20. each cheapest I found yet. Do keep in mind there is a left and right side to them as they are curved to fit the tank....

Very nice bike man. I recently found myself an '85 maxim x 750. If you don't mind me asking, what brand of windshield is that?

I pulled the brand name sticker off that windshield off over 10 years ago. Sorry but I can't remember who made it. Hope you enjoy your bike. The first thing to do is get a compression test done then check the valve lash. Get that motor running right and you will love it.

Well I found a used tank on Kijiji. It was dented so got them to send me the badges and petcock only. The other news I have is this link to the cheapest price I found for new ones. I found it a bit confusing as to how they identified the emblems. I took pics of my bike and sent them away for the collector plate....
