I read a thread that talked about testing the fuel pump relay. The thread mentioned orienting the "red mark" up then conducting the test. My relay does not appear to have a "red mark" on it, although I did note that the prongs inside were copper colored on one side and aluminum colored on the other.

Can anyone tell me how to identify the correct position for the relay in the absence of the "red mark"?

    Many thanks!

Was wondering if that was a tipover switch, and - you could use a digital multi-meter to determine position.

Slobot...you have 3 choices.....1. look in your book, there's a procedure in your turbo supplement.....2. look and the wiring diagram in your book and look at the wire colors or 3. just sub a 2 wire 12v bulb and socket and connect it in leiu of the fuel pump and make sure it lights when the starter cranks and the bike runs.....it will run for a couple of moments w/o the fuel pump connected.

Thanks Jeff. I tested the relay per the supplement but I am not sure I got a valid result since there is no red mark to orient the relay by. I'm thinking that since the leads going into the pump are blue/black and black that those are the poles I need to hook the battery up to and the tester on the other two?

By the way the pump ran before but suddenly does not unless it is connected directly to the battery. If the fuel pump relay checks out and I still am not getting current to the pump where should I look next?

I'd have to sit down and look at the diagram and figure out the next step since I don't want to tell you bad info and I can't do that here at work because I'm too busy right now but i'll take a look this evening and see what I can come up with but there's a few guys here that are real sharp electrically so hopefully, one of them will chime in.
