    Hey everyone-
Can anyone recommend a shop in Chicago? I normally do my own work, but I just bought this 550 and really want to get it running so I can get to riding. Please post- thanks!

OR- are there any XJ gurus out there willing to help me with it? It needs the carbs cleaned/sync'd and a petcock rebuild.

PS- yes I do have beer. -J

Hit up Oblivion, I believe he is out your neck of the woods. He has a link to his personal web page on his profile.

Are you looking for shops in Chicago proper or somewhere outside? I know two out here in upper IL right off the top of my head:

    Randy's Cycles in Huntley, IL

    Cyclecraft Yamaha in Woodstock, IL

I've never really heard a bad thing about Randy's but never used them. My dad and friends always did their own work and I haven't owned a bike until recently.

Randy's is in Huntley proper but can be easily reached after a trip on 90.

    That helps thanks!

If I don't find something closer- I'll contact them. I trailer'd the bike home and I don't have a problem trailering the bike to a good shop if that's what I need to do. In the mean time, the helmet should be here tomorrow, and I still won't be able to ride. -J

Or- if there's a carb clinic within a reasonable distance- I MIGHT be able to talk the wife into it....

You guys are great! I'm on the northside (Andersonville area)- so Zion isn't too far away from me- I'd be willing to run up to Uhaul and trailer it up to Zion! (We actually looked at a house up there, but couldn't figure out a way to get the wife to work by metra) or Mudelein, it isn't so far away either- so the same goes there!

I did get her to start after the petcock rebuild, oil change and new plugs (see nightmare pics), and with ALOT of choke she'll run, but give any throttle and she cuts out. Also- I now have a weird problem with the starter slowly winding up after it runs for about 20 or 30 seconds. I cut her off so the starter doesn't try to spin at 2500 rpm.

You guys still interested in helping me deal with this? -J

    Hey all-
never did get it running right and now it won't start at all. In the last month we moved across the border into Indiana. So- there's lots of open road calling, and my XJ sits quietly in the garage.... J

I checked with my brother...he's up to his elbows in bike work now.
I could work on it if you could get it to me. I'm a couple miles south of the Wisconsin border. My Seca's on the lift now but I could roll it off and make room for a cash customer! :D I know a guy who does trailering too. PM me if interested.

Whoa, wait a second. That says you are in Mchenry! I haven't been on much lately, so I didn't see it before!

And I rebuilt my own petcock, soon to move on the carb syncing. I've also taken my carbs apart, and cleaned em up real good.

Yep. I was out riding a week or so ago when it was nice out. Kicking myself for not riding to work today. :-|

I haven't dug that far into my bike yet. Like I posted elsewhere - non-bike stuff has intruded. :-(
