    Hi all,
Nub question, I believe that the wire that is connected to the clutch is a clutch lock sensor ? Do I need this ? What is the main function ? While changing handle bars on my '82 650xj I broke it, but just the wire, I could solder it back on.
    Thanks in advance.

It's part of the safety interlock system.

It allows you to start the bike in gear, as long as the sidestand is up and the clutch is pulled in; like for instance if you stall in traffic.
