Are you running a stock air cleaner, a K&N replacement, or PODS ??

Typically, you go up 4 on your Main jet, ride it, checking the plug color and performance, then maybe make an additional change to Main or Pilot jets.

    success stories of PODS

Use the SEARCH feature, look for threads about PLUG CHOPS and READING PLUGS.

I used the formula in Xj4ever's write up (you can find it in the parts catalog in the jetting section) It worked perfectly for me on my 82 550 Maxim using the aftermarket jets. If I remember correctly I went plus 2, if you need I can pull the invoice over the weekend and look for you.
My bike only has 4 into 1 exhaust, NO Pods!

I went the next size up, also aftermarket, worked fine. I was able to lean it up as needed with the screw.
