Maxim X - Stress Cracked Frame - Backrest

    I've found stress cracks in the frame where the backrest bolts in.

    I can't get the attachments to work.... RRRRR

    That has obviously been rode long, and hard with a fair amount of weight against the backrest.

    There are two possible methods that I can think of to correct that.

    1. Get a long bolt from the hardware store to thread into the nut. Then using the bolt, and a piece of pipe to lever the nut back into the proper position. This will be a lot of trial, and error. Once the nut is back in place make a spacer from scrap steel to hold the location while the cracks are welded.

    2. Locate a piece from a salvage yard that has a good mounting plate. Then weld the new mounting plate on replacing the broken piece.

    With the chunk missing out of the corner. I would suggest the second approach.

    Thanks, I will pass on the tips to the welder in the family. :)

    Hopefully, others will check there frames too. :)

    That is a COMMON place for cracks to develop. Weld 'em up.
