I'll go out on a limb and say "Asian" market 400 with water cooling.
I froze-frame a few times. That radiator is bigger than an oil cooler.

Was there such a bike in 1985??

I'd think it would be an earlier model year. I noticed the model number on the side cover near the seat (couldn't quite make it out at that resolution), and the rear disk brake.

I just went back and looked at it again, and thought I did see a rear sprocket in one shot, so... I dunno.

    XJ400Z-S (quote from movie site)
Though 'Jackie Chan's Police Story' is Hong Kong movie, strangely this Yamaha is Japanese market model.
It has belt on the seat for the rear passenger (request by law) and has JP market color.

Wow. Nice piece of detective work there.

    I'll second that.

    No, this scene

    referring to the previous FJ
It would be cool to see the XJ400Z-S, the FJ600, and the Seca 900 all together (in my garage!!)

Sooooo, a few shots to the head to mess up the valve timing, then a couple shots to the brakes to cause instant brake pad delamination, thus causing him to crash!

    the xj400Z was a japanese-only market.

The bike was also used in a few other movies. If you do a google search of xj400z and find the listing for the imdb site, you will see some stills from other movies. Some show the 400z some oare just xj400 and some are the xj400s diversion.

In the movie "Tortilla Soup" (a re-make of a Japanese film but still cute) the baseball coach character that marries the older daughter rides (not too well) a XJ650 Maxim.

There's a XJ600 Diversion in The Da Vinci Code, 'bout half way through the movie.

I've got a screenie stashed somewhere that I will dig around for.
