My turn signal works fine when I put it to the right hand side. However the left light seems to light up and stay solid when i do this. Also when i put it to the left, I get a weak solid light from the left no flashing.

Also when I put it to the left on the console I see the yellow turn signal coming on. It does not come on when I put it to the right however the signal light flashes properly when I put it to the right ( e both the front and back on the right side flashes fine)

All the bulbs are working I have also put bulb grease on all bulbs

    1. I have replaced the cancelling unit
    2. I have replaced flasher relay but the same exact problem persists.
    3. I have also replaced the turn switch assembly

I welcome all help and suggestions.

    Thanks

Have you disassembled all of the turn signals themselves? Removed the lenses, removed the "guts" and checked for corrosion, broken wires, etc?

Have you verified that all of the bulbs are the proper wattage? For the stock flashers to work correctly they need to be 27W automotive 1156's.

Did you replace the flasher relay with a real Yamaha one or something from the auto parts?

Were the other replacement parts new, or eBay parts of unknown history?

Did you include the indicator bulbs in the cluster when you were checking bulbs?

    Hi Bigfitz,

I replaced the turn signal bulbs with the 1156's

Flasher relay replaced was with a Yamaha Nippon denso (same as on the bike.

I have replaced the bulbs in the cluster.

Basically I replaced all the bulbs after my earlier mishap with running the bike without the battery. This issue was there before I blew the TCI etc running the bike without the battery. The same issue persists even after replacing all the things I mentioned.

Next I will be replacing the main wiring harness... I was wondering if there was anything I had to do before doing that. I got a main wiring harness off eBay, and at this point this is the only issue I have, so I was reluctant to rewire because I am not sure about the condition of the harness (even though it looks good physically) also my current harness has the newer blade type fuses so I have to update the harness after the swap as it comes with the original fuse box.

Replae the harness and you will find your problem when you do.

Where did these parts come from? New, or used?

Was the flasher relay NEW, or used?

I'm asking because what you're describing sounds more like a switch issue than anything else.

The switch clusters are serviceable. They're held together with phillips screws inside, and can be carefully taken apart and cleaned. Quite often you'll find a loose or broken solder joint inside; or just dirty contacts.

You can get new switch pods from XJ4Ever for less money than anywhere else you'll find, but they're still not cheap. You might want to take a shot at refurbishing one of them, since you now have two to play with. Just pay close attention to how it comes apart; they're not super complex but there are some small parts and springs in there.

Quite honestly, your problem could be as simple as some loose connections in the headlight shell, where the signals plug in and pick up their common ground.

Your original cancelling unit is likely fine; hang onto it. Brand new, they were over $100.

You were right... One of the turn signals at the rear was plugged into the wrong outlet. Once that was sorted we have blinkers working correctly!!
