Hi to all again, I am just finishing up an 81 Seca 750 and I put a new battery in it and the headlight will not come on. Also the warning light and turn signal lights turn on and stay on. Actually all the lights in the gauge cluster come on and stay on. The warning system also displays all the stuff to.
    My question is
    1. Does the Seca have a headlight monitor like a xs850 and it will not turn on until the engine is started?
    2. Should the fault monitoring system not run through a test when you turn the key and show only the things not in the correct place, i.e. kick stand?
    3. Can I reset the fault monitoring system?

    Thanks

The fault monitoring system only checks everything when the engine is running. Everything is displayed in the LCD on Key on, and the warning light comes on. Signal lights, high beam, and neutral "idiot" lights are valid on key-on.

By design, your headlight won't come on until the headlight relay gets a signal from the diode, basically telling it that the engine is running. Keeping off a high load device (headlight) means more current can go to the starter and spark plugs. The relay is by your TCI/Rectifier/Regulator on the left side. I can't remember which wire is what, but you can jump it to test your headlight off the battery.

Turn signals shouldn't stay on unless you've got something wired wrong. If you use LED, they may not flash without a different relay, but I don't think both would be on.

Ok well that explains a lot. The turn signal lights do not turn on, just both turn signal indicators on the gauge cluster illuminate with the key on. I am keeping the bike stock. I guess I was expecting the fault monitoring system to cycle through on key on, not after start. My dad's 82 virago has the same system, I'll have to go check out how his works.

    Thanks
