I recently got a key cut with the key code. I sent them the letter and five numbers stamped on the ignition. The key works in the ignition, but not the tank. After the letter and five numbers there was a quarter inch space and then four more numbers. Were they relevant? From what I understood, the key code is only a letter and five numbers. Any help or information would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

Did your original key work in both locks?

It didn't have one when I bought it. Got it from a place about an hour away and realized no key was involved halfway back home. They looked and offered to make a key from a lock, but it was easier to just have a key made from the code. Bike was in a warehouse for an unknown number of years. The ad implied they had a key. Just wondering if I made an omission when giving the key code.

If it works in the ignition, then you gave them the correct code. Very likely your gas cap has a different lock. Hopefully it's the same "letter" code, there are only five (A-E.)

I would take the ignition lock, the gas cap and your seat/helmet lock to a professional, store-front based locksmith and have him work his magic.

Doesn't work in seat lock either. Called around and no locksmiths in my area work on motorcycles. Which I think is absurd, but whatever.

Hmm. I went to a STOREFRONT locksmith (a lot of them work out of a van) and he was "miffy" because I had the audacity to bring my own key blanks (since he had all 5 in stock.)

There is only one brick and mortar locksmith around. They would only be around from 9-9:30am and it's 45 minutes away. The only thing they would do for me is pick the gas tank lock.

Talked to someone at a company that makes keys from code and he said that C##### is the only part that matters. My seat lock and gas cap don't match, but I'm guessing the ignition was changed rather than vice versa. It had regular bolts securing it.
