I purchased a 1982 xj750 and love this bike its my second one and it needs help. The bad the carbs were leaking fuel but now it doesnt since I have cleaned them thoroughly. Now the bike has never idled at all and if it did it would hang at 5gs and then die. Ive replaced the carb boots and each carb has an individual air filter. The idle screw doesnt do anything if u screw it in all the way or out there is no change. Even after the bkr is warmed up you have to completely cover cylinder ones carb or cylinder 4 carb to get It fired up it will not start without being choked manually by hand. I really want to ride this bike but these carbs have me confused I cant even sync them right. If some one wouldnt mind messagimg me I can give you my number to talk. I want to please the gods so I may ride with them.

I'm no expert, but it appears you have pods on your bike. That by it self is why the gods aren't looking on you favourably. Add to that mis jetting, dirty primary curcuit, un synced status, and you've got yourself a bike that won't run. But I'm no expert .............

5K is not an idle. You're running on main fuel at that point.

Did you bench sync? Did you vacuum sync? Valves in spec?

You won't get anywhere with out of spec valves.

The pods may or may not cause an issue. That's been debated more than it should on this site. Search and make up your own mind.

    IN ORDER:

    -VALVES IN SPEC.
-Carbs religiously clean, slides go "clunk."
-Float levels set and verified using fuel and clear tubing. This needs to be done for each indiviual carb and is very important to get right, the adjustment range is only 3mm.
    -Carbs bench sync'ed.
-Pilot mixture screws at 2 3/4 ~ 3 turns out.
-THEN you do a running vacuum sync, with the YICS blocked.

Then and only then can you start fine-tuning the mixtures and working on getting it to run with pods.

SKIP ANY, or take shortcuts, and you'll be back to do what you skipped or do again whatever you didn't do right. You HAVE TO do the above steps, in order, or it's not going to run right until you do.

Well the bike was one of those itll run if you clean the carbs. I cleaned the carbs 4 times just to make sure lol and the carbs move flawlessly the slides move like brand new on the float levels im not to sure i set them to where it wouldnt flow out of the carbs and each carb stops when full not sure on bench synching or yics? I have a synch tool that takes mercury so thats ready to go ive done the mixture screws to 3 turns out valves arent making any noise so I dont know. the bike runs like a chicken with its head cutoff when you open her up just will not idle and my idle screw doesnt do anything no matter if i turn it in or out all the way. Im lost I live in the edmond oklahoma area if anyone lives by and be willing to lend a hand. Ill provide beer lol
