Okay, first post so please forgive me if this is the wrong location or if this has been covered already.

I recently picked up an '81 xj650 for a project bike. I've got it mostly torn down and getting ready to chop'n'bob and currently ordering the parts I need.

I was originally just going to fab up some clipons but found these on ebay tonight

Does anybody have experience with these? Are they built well? I'd especially be interested in seeing a picture of them installed if anyone has a set.

If they're trash, I don't have a problem with making my own. Though, if they're decent, I could certainly handle being a little lazy and just buying them. :)

Thanks in advance for any insight y'all may be able to offer.

Hi. I looked at these myself today. I think there is an issue in-so-far-as the bar is too short to accommodate the r/h twistgrip/switch-block and m/cylinder and brake line banjo comfortably. I think that part of the m/cylinder would foul the inner end of the handlebar, where it widens and fits onto the clamp.

An alternative product, with the necessary bar length and a design which will allow the m/cyl to run over and beyond the clamp is to be found here...

I'm replacing the throttle and levers etc. with aftermarket units so hopefully I'll be able to fit everything. Especially since I already ordered them, haha.

I figure that in the worst case scenareo, I can just lengthen the bars. :)

Nice find on that link though, don't xj forks have 36mm tubes?

Probably do. I just measured them roughly around 35/36mm by sliding an adjustable spanner onto them and measuring across the jaws with a tape. About time somebody invented verniers - lol. I think that, by judicious use of a file and a big hammer, they would go on.
