Oil Cooler

    Hi

    I have searched and searched and cannot find any pictures of the oil cooler (parts fiche) does anyone know where i can find one?

    opps!!...1981 XJ550......European? as the US one didn't have the oil cooler by the looks....thanks for the links.....i'm really trying to work out how the "ring" it attaches to sits between the bottom case and the oil filter housing.....doesn't seem to be any marks to line it up

    For the 550 you will get a better idea using the FJ600 schematic. The FJ600 is on the same base platform as the 550.

    The oil cooler base is attached so that the pressure relief (Parts 2 through 5 in the FJ600 schematic) is located to the bottom, and away from the engine. This will allow the lines to attach properly to the sides.

    Toward the motor, and as stated above, the "relief valve" toward the bottom:

    Toward the front of the bike; I believe that little "nubbin" at the top is to engage one of the sets of fins on the front of the engine to "locate" it:

    Excellent!!, thanks guys....there is a locator for the filter housing to the oil cooler base...but nothing i could find telling which way the base went went. much appriciated.

    DUH!!, looked in the suplimentary section of my manual for 84+ bikes...weird since this is registered in 81...

    The '81~'83 USA-market 550s (on which your book is probably based) didn't come with an oil cooler. Our FJ600 did, those started here as an '85 model.
