I am doing a total restoration on a 82 Maxim XJ550 (and thank all you guys on this forum you have been a great help) I was cleaning up today and found this little brass part on the floor and I have no idea if it goes to the bike or not. The motor is out and i have rebuilt the complete front end but I dont remember seeing this little brass pin its about 1 inch long. If anyone could help it would be great.
    Thanks
    Doug

That's the greenest brass part I've ever seen! Has it got a hole through the center?

mmmmm, maybe one for the parts book if you can't figure it out but if there's no hole, I'd guess it's a mounting/alignment pin of some sort. The green color would seem to indicate that it's spent at least part of it's life wet or that said camera sucks<LOL>

It has to be for locating something, the outer ledge would suggest that......I'd dig up the parts book for your bike and grab a cup of coffee and just go page by page....it's amazing what else you will learn by doing it anyway and you just might figure out where it came from. Please take a moment to post up if you find out....mysteries always engage me till they're solved<LOL>

I have to agree that it is a locating pin of some sort. The only place I could think of would be the brake caliper slide pin, but those are deffinately not brass.

It looks more like a pin that would be used to align plastic parts.

We need a picture of it next to say, a quarter, so we can get an idea of the size.

I'm not recognizing it as a part from a 550 Seca...

    Is it BRASS, or anodized?

No wonder I didn't recognize it; they don't normally "escape."

Did you really break it, or just accidentally unsnap it from the M/C?
