Hello! Good to see you! This websites has kept me excited about owning a 32 year old motorcyle, I hope it does the same for you. I live about 80 miles north of New Orleans Louisiana where it rains bugs and we wish we had windshields!

Wow ! those bikes look even scarier WITH the fenders that would keep the tires from ripping the flesh right off the bone. 8O

    Thanks for the welcome everyone.
I only bought the XJ's because i was looking for a get to work bike to replace an MZ with.
The only bike i could happen to find local that was within my means just happened to be a XJ 650. I then got offered the 750 about twenty minutes later,as a spares bike.
I am really impressed with the XJ it gets started up at 6:00am everyday it always fires up no matter what the weather.
I do about a 130 miles on it every week and all i have had to replace is the tail light bulb last friday.
Over here XJ650's seem to be a bit of a forgotten bike, the classic bike press never seem to feature them, prefering to write about Zeds and GSs. That just means cheaper bikes for us "in the know." :)

Hey tst...which MZ do you / did you have? I used to commute from Swindon to Leatherhead on a TS250 back in 1985.....until it blew the rings and clouds of smoke followed me for 10 miles...the front brake was possibly the scariest thing I've ever encountered.....switched it for a twin leading shoe front wheel off a Yammy! Also saw a nice XJ650 seca in the January Classic Bike priced at 400pounds - I suspect there's a few of them over there that would be good buys....enjoy!

Hey Parts....I guess the only good thing about the ice is we get to run some wicked machinery......but I would love to be able to bike all year... :(

Painting with a broad brush, I prefer an XJ over the comparable Zed or GS.

Yammadof, It was an ETZ 251 My brother blew it up because he thrashed it, So i rebuilt it as a 300 He then crashed it about ten minutes later :?
It was actually nice to ride and it handled really well but the electrics were awful so it had to go.
    I was born in lincolnshire,
does that make me a yellowbelly?

We have very few year round riders here.

In fact, from dec -now I.m pretty much alone on my commute.

This winter was warm as hell with temps rarely below 15 or 16 f. But as a norm we stay 0-13 overnight and early morn and I'm definitely the only
bike on the road....................bunch a' wussies (just kidding    )

Yessir, TST, you's a yellerbelly.......agree about the handling of the MZ...and yes, the electrics were dismal....

Parts.......you got heated hand grips down there? I remember camping in the Cottonwood area - Lo-Lo-Mai campground - beautiful......you got some elevation there as I recall - 5000+ feet?

No to the grips-it's the top of the hand that suffers and
after talking with a few northerners they have all gone to heated
gloves instead of grips-and that's a matter of no $$'s left over after bill's.

Cottonwood is about 10/ 15 deg f warmer then where I live but
only 45 min away. We ride up there 6/7 times a yr just for
    the twisties and the scenery.

Wow just realised i havn't posted on here for a couple of years!
    Just a quick update...
The XJ is off the road at the moment but the plan is to fit the 750 motor to it and also i have purchased a Squire sidecar to bolt onto the side.
I have a good friend who has recently built an amazing V Max outfit and he is going to do the hard work.
The reason i am wanting a sidecar is for the winter, i am fed up with tip toeing round slippery roundabouts and corners on two wheels and having cars tailgating me because i am going slower than they want to.
If i slide and fall off they would never stop until i am under them.
I don't want to use the family car, i prefer bikes.
A bit of a slide on an icy roundabout on 3 wheels will be more fun than two... Hopefully.
The last time i tried riding an Outfit it got the better of me, but i have a few people who are going to learn me how to do it proper.
    Watch this space...
