I have an 81' Seca 550 and the PO broke off one of the posts that holds the float on. Somehow he managed to weld/ glue it back together but it is crooked and shorter than the other one and I cant get the rod out to adjust the float. My question is are the Maxim 550 carbs the same? I tried to use the search but didn't get any definitive answers.

The only reason I ask is because there is a carb body I could use if so on ebay. I can switch all the jets, floats, diaghrams and such from mine over to it.

    Thanks

I was told by Dave Fox (hogfiddles) that he thinks they are not interchangeable because I asked that question on his thread about selling 550 parts

The carb BODIES are the same. They're all BS28's.

The only difference between the Seca carbs and Maxim carbs is the pilot air jet (IIRC) and the jet needle.

Just remember that each POSITION (1, 2/3, or 4) is slightly different from its neighbors, as far as how the fuel inlets are drilled, etc.

Okay Thanks guys, So as long as I replace say, the number 4 carb body with another number 4 carb body and swap the internals I should be good to go. Awesome. Thanks for the help.

Yep. Just be sure to swap the two items I mentioned. I'm 110% sure about the jet needle; I'll check my references this evening and confirm on which jet it is.
