    Hey everyone,

I just bought a 1982 xj 550 Maxim parts bike with the intent to use it for parts. The frame is solid and it really would not take a lot to get it running and on the road. The only problem is that I only have a bill of sale and the VIN number. Does anyone know a way to check a VIN number for free? I plan on going to the DMV today to fill out paperwork to see if I can contact the guy who last registered the cycle.

If you go to the Service section and look for Chacal's catalog there is a section in there that covers vin numbers.

Thanks. Looks like I should call the police to see if it's stolen. It looks like everyone who has done so has a friend in uniform that helps them out...think they would do it for anyone who called?

It can't hurt to try. The most they can say is "No" but since they are here to "Serve and Protect" I would think they would check for you. Good Luck and I hope it is not stolen.

Looks like it wasnt stolen...it wasnt even registered! I dont understand how a bike 30 year old bike was never registered. Because of that this made finding the original owner nearly impossible to track down the title. Anyone in Illinois need a parts bike?
