The monitor is detecting the headlight is burned out. There are 3 wires that connect the headlight to the monitor, make sure the the connections are clean and in good condition. I can't remember if the RLU(reverse lighting unit) sends a signal to the monitor, it might. Check those connections also.
I'll look into mine this evening to see if I can find out.
Has there been any modifications to the wiring or headlight?

100% stock 10,000 original miles. sat outside for a yr n ahalf. could be corrossion i had no hud until i cleaned the contacts behind the fuse box that connect to the output regulator(i think is what it is, clear plastic with a fuse and a plus and minus screw) also once i clear the warning light and im in neutral, idrop the side stand and it starts blinking again.

That would be the auxilary power connection. I can't see any relation to the warning light.
Putting the side stand down with the engine running WILL make the warning light flash. It will stop once the sidestand is up. Since the bike sat outside there is a good chance of coroded conectors. I would start checking them starting with the ones behind the headlight.
