Howdy there guys, Just thought Id put a couple pix up of my finished 82 Maxim and pose a lil question to any of you. I have everything on my bike perfect with 1 small problem. My turn signal when turning right works perfectly with 0 issues. HOWEVER when Im turning left at times I seem to have a serious short. The entire lighting system, running lights, headlights, taillights will blink along with the blinker and it seems to drain the battery like there is no tomorrow. Ive gone over the wiring a few times I cant find a short anywhere. Just wondering if any of you had any suggestions? switch?

Loose ground wire causes that. Make sure bulb sockets are not rusty or collecting condensation.

Check to see if something shorts when you turn left. Like a short wire that binds or has a cut that touches metal or another wire.
You could always turn right 3 times to go left.LOL

Is that a Sportster seat? Sounds good. Did you make the forward controls or buy them? Did you change any wiring?

Sounds like an effect of a bad ground, not a short.

actually its a dyna glyde seat. moved me a lil farther forward then i wanted so I had to extend the forward controls I got from tc bros. Now its super comfy to ride tho. Thanks fer all the info guys ill dig thru those wires again n make sure there isnt one cut somewhere thats rubbing. The turn signals are built into the handle bar grips. they only came with 1 power wire coming out but I made my own ground wire on them to keep them grounded...And I know its gotta be a short somewhere, theres no other reason for why the right works great n so does the left for a majority of the time, its just that stinker every once in a while on the left thats kickin my arse lol

Very nice!! I was looking into getting that set of forward controls. Was wondering who had tried them. They work well then? I'm 6'4" so I could use the leg room.

ya moose they are super comfortable, its great to have the legs stretched out, but wooo do the calfs get a lil warm next to that head when you have shorts on. im 6,2 and with the extensions i added to the controls they are a perfect fit. The extensions were super ez, I just used some flat iron and cut the holes for the controls and matched them up to the engine mounts along with some spacers to clear the exhaust and added a couple of support bars in the front. Youll find that if you mount them to where they want you to when you get them from TC bros youll end up eating your knee caps. The extesnions were so the way to go.
