    Hello,

I am wondering what the best way to restore chrome shine is. The exhaust parts are the header pipes and mufflers, no excessive pitting on this stuff thankfully.

Also, what procedure would you go through to polish dulled engine parts that have faded and appear dull.thanks!

For chrome, use a good quality chrome cleaner/polish. I prefer Mother's but there are plenty of them out there.

For the "polished" metal, those parts were clearcoated from the factory. Polishing them involves stripping the old clearcoat off and then fine wet-sanding to remove the corrosion; then polishing to the desired luster. Most parts will need to be removed first, as Aircraft Paint Remover will attack their gaskets, and that's what it takes to get the clearcoat off.

Do a forum search on "polishing aluminum" and start reading.

Thanks, Fitz. I also heard using steel wool? I do have some Mother's chrome polish from last season, just simple shop towels to do the work I guess.

Clean cotton terrycloth works the best. I buy cheap white facecloths, hand towels and bar towels at a discount store and pitch them when they get too gnarly.

DO NOT USE steel wool; it will imbed micro-particles of steel in the aluminum which can then rust.

Scotchbrite needs to become your new best friend. It comes in different grades, like sandpaper, at the home improvement or hardware store.
