:?: I have decided to do a minimum wiring setup on my 82 Seca, considering I have ABSOLUTELY no experience, I have removed the Atari, chopped ridgid frame, changed headlight, taillight,, turn signals, horn, cut away the wrapping of the wiring harness, check to see it runs, cut away wires to everything left that doesn't go anywhere, check to see it runs, I have this block with 6-7 wires coming out of it, I unplug it, check to see if it runs, it does, with or without it.
My question is, do I need it? Or, can I trace and remove ALL of these wires also?

    Pics and/or color of wires?

You need to work out what it is before removing it, as some things are needed for the bike to run, and some are needed for it to charge the battery etc.

that should be your cutoff relay, not needed. unless you like not having to turn your flashers off manually. If you want to know whats needed and not needed, just look at that common minimal xj wiring diagram. it's really not much at all. I just re-wired mine, but reason was, half the shit didn't work because of being spliced here and there so many times, and about a half a cup of water was in the wiring harness.. also make sure you have a manual, you can get your stock diagram to cross reference to.

What is generally called the "cutoff relay" refers to the safety relay.

The item in question is the automatic cancelling unit for the turn signal flashers. It can simply be unplugged if you don't care about that function; don't hurt it, sell it. They're no longer available but used to run over $100.

Ok the black box is the automatic cancel unit, its safe to disconnect and trace /remove all wires. Then it is also for sale, I have gotten this bike running, but its never been on the road, except around the block, so I don't know if it works or not. If anyone needs/wants it pm me and we can work something out.
Btw, Would the led flasher relay use the same wires as the current flasher?

Mast flasher units have a code next to the terminals. The flasher unit I used required the terminals to be backed out of the socket and moved. Your mileage may vary.
