So my Dad was in a nasty motorcycle accident when he was 19. It left his left leg mangled pretty badly. He wouldn't let them amputate it and has learned to live with it very well. He's nearing 60 now and is starting to have trouble riding. He has no movement in his left ankle. He is now unable to raise the front of his left foot up or down and can no longer shift his '82 650. My first thought was to make a suicide or jockey shifter for him, but he wasn't at comfortable with that idea. I guess the next best thing would be a heal toe shifter. I'm thinking I could maybe get a piece fabbed up that fits over the original shaft and just goes in the opposite direction, towards the rear of the bike. Has anyone ever done something like this on this bike? If so, any suggestions? If not, does anyone see any obvious issues with this?

I have the same problem but in both ankles. You can take another shifter and weld it to the part that slips over the splines you just can't weld all the way around it so it will compress when you tighten the bolt. I converted my rd with a few pieces of metal this might give you some ideas also.

I like that setup, I need to encompass that with some forward controls
