'85 xj 700 with 10600 miles. No idea what maintenance the po did, but the bike seems to be clean and in good condition. The bike developed a skip and rough idle which I corrected with new spark plugs and clean carbs. However, I decided to check the plug wires, although they look new. Started the bike and turned off the lights to look for any arcing and saw none. However, when I used a screw driver and touched the wire and then the engine I got a very small spark on three of the wires. I then misted the wires while running and still didn't see any arcing. The bike runs well, I just wondered if anyone has ever seen this with their bikes.

Make sure the plug caps are tight (they screw into/onto the wires.)

At 10,600 you'd BETTER check the valve clearances and soon. If they've never been checked, you're getting close to disaster. They only get tighter...

I once had a problem with just 1 plug, it seems the wire unscrewed from the connector, but it was hidden under the rubber boot.
I screwed it back on nice and tight and BINGO! it's all better!

Doing the valves this weekend, then the brakes. The po was pretty good with maintenance, so I suspect the valves have been serviced on schedule, but I'm taking no chances. All my plug boots were on securely, so I can only assume that I had a bad plug or one of the wires was arcing.
