Ok, here's one I haven't seen posted on here before. I just finished my restoration on my bike and increased my insurance to full coverage. My insurance agent suggested I get the Bike appraised so they can get a sense of the true value of the bike. The only problem is they have no clue on where to direct me. Has anyone had this done? I live in Ohio but if you guy's can get me pointed in the right direction, I sould be able to find someone around here.

Here in Canada, any used car dealership (or anyone with a dealer license) can do an appraisal. I'm not sure about Ohio, but I think that would be a good direction to start.

I have no idea, and to be honest here's why. I'm into my bike for about $1200. Should it be totaled beyond repair, stolen or whatever, it's only $1200. I could see if maybe it was a $75,000 waste of money television chopper, but I could handle a $1200 loss. I pay less than $10 a month for insurance on my bike. The fun I have had building and riding it far surpasses the dollar value of my bike, and I'd gladly build another if I had to. And another, and another, and another...

I'd wager there are hundreds of $1200.00 motorcyles on this forum alone with 3X their value invested. Proving value is a difficult, sometimes impossible task, and the cost of the insurance is usually prohibitivly high. Face facts...it's an XJ Maxim. (I don't mean that in a negative way; I love my XJ!) Insured value won't be much over a grand. Ride it and enjoy.

    ^what he said.
I paid seventy-five bucks for mine, rode it for two years and got hit by a mini-van, Pulled the motor and put it in something else I'm still enjoying it.
I payed more for insurance than I did for the bike, and I enjoyed the hell out of it!

It's an old bike, the insurance co. isn't going to pay what it's worth to you.

Not even close if you have regular plates on it and ride it.

In some States, you can MC Classic or Antique Plates ... and THEN go through the process of Value Added for Custom, Chrome, Paint and more.

But, ... The Plate only allows the bike "On The Road" ... for short intervals, Special Events, parades, shows with a Total Annual Miles Allowed ... and if you exceed it you get whacked with an Insurance surcharge that will knock your socks off!

Mine is worth a lot to me!

If I had to sell er, I dont think I could get what she's worth to me.

Think I'll just ride er and cross that bridge when I get there.

My ins company says that they will pay up to 3000.oo usd for any chrome custom or other addons,

My brother had to have his bike appraised here in California. He found a few bike shops in the greater San Francisco area that perform the task, at shop rates mind you (his bill was about $200, what a rip).
