'82 XJ 650 carb cross ref

    are the carbs from the 82 xj 650 maxim the same as on any other bikes (suzuki, honda etc)?
    if so what models?
    asking in case i run across a good 'part' bike..

    Try looking here www.cmsnl.com It's a bit of a trawl but there's a fiche for all bikes from the 70's, 80's and 90's but the year 2K on are a bit thin on the ground.

    ive actually been looking at that site but (and maybe its just me) it seems it just gives the part number specific to a particular bike rather than eg: Mikuni VMxxxxx.

    i'll give it good look though.

    That's because Mikunis on a Suzuki will be slightly different than the same size Mikunis on a Yamaha; etc.

    Each vehicle manufacturer had their particular "model" of carbs "customized" for their particular line of bikes; so Hitachi HSC32's from a 650 Yamaha will be slightly different than Hitachi HSC32's off another bike. Some of those changes could be as subtle as needle profiles or slide differences; just don't assume full interchangability, and understand that some of the differences may not be readily apparent.
