Just found my new Maxim X! I am new to these bikes. It's got 15,000 miles on it. Runs like a top. Got it for $600.00. Couldn't be happier with it.

Get ahold of a book BEFORE the initial valve adjustment is due; which is rapidly approaching.

And since you got it for only $600; you'd better be planning a brake rebuild almost immediately. You can pretty much assume nothing's been done to it except ride it.

Thanks...I am not a mechanic.... It's in the shop right now so it can be gone over. New brakes, tires and whatever else it needs. Trying to post a pic

You don't need to be a mechanic.....few of us are...but I do not trust a shop with the words "whatever else it needs.." That just becomes a license to print money - yours! You really do need to get a manual and understand exactly what it is you are dealing with. This forum is one of the best, if not the best, of its kind on the web. You can choose to learn a lot...and save a lot......or simply give your hard earned cash to others. I agree there may be a few tasks that are difficult...but with help and practice, you would be surprised at how much you can do.

Oh if you want a pic, try tinypic.com. Follow the prompts - hit "browse" and select your pic from you gallery. Then hit "resize" and you want "message board - 640 x 480". Hit "Upload now" and enter code. Then LEFT click on "IMG code for forums...." It will turn black. RIGHT click. select "Copy" and the paste onto the board......

Highly recommend checking valve clearance mine ran like a top to.I thought about waiting the riding season out to check valve clearance THANK GOD I DID NOT WAIT checked the other night and had a clearance of .04 on intake of number 4 also 3 others were a bit tight this could have turned ugly there is really nothing to it with the help of this site and a manual you can do it. do not be intimidated by working on your bike you should try to do as much work on it yourself if possible you will get to know your ride and be able to take pride in knowing how to work on it

Nice bike. I have to agree with Yammadof. Get yourself a manual and do some of the things yourself. You don't have to be a mecanic like he said. Some of the things you need to do to your ride can be done quite easily from this forum. Do some "Searching" and you will get step-by step directions on some of the things you need done. If youo get stuck, just ask! Everyone here is more than happy to help out. You never know, someone might be close enough to you to even lend a hand. Give it a shot! Good Luck and welcome to the club.
