Haha Thanks! I see you have info on the pods in your signature. I have mine mounted as they came. Can you tell me why you put the bods on the stock rubber (necks) of the old air box?

I found the fix a couple years ago, but that is beside the point.

The stock airbox rubber creates what is neccessary to make the carb function properly sans airbox....Actually those are what make the magic happen that the airbox has in the first place.

Did you rewire the bike using min diagram, or jsut remove somethings?
There is a bunch of safety switches factory. I reccomend re wire if you didn't.

Basically I unplugged the turn signals brake light and all the wires in the headlight. Now that I am plugging in all the new lights and speedometer I have a few wires I do not need so I have done nothing with them yet. Hopefully tomorrow they will be able to wire the bike and get the lights all working and the bike running! If all goes well I will then fix my pods by doing what you did.

    Thanks!

Looks good! I really like those mini bullet signals. Where did you find them? What sort of mini speedo are you running?

Some seat detail pics would also be appreciated... I've been contemplating fabbing my own solo seat or going fiberglass route. I just can't make up my mind.

If you were running solid struts then I wouldn't bring up the very minute clearance between the rear tire and that fender. For an example look at the original picture of when you got the bike and look how much clearance is between the fender and the top of the tire now.

Also, the way your plate is mounted between th axle nut and the housing has me concerned, the plate is made out of mild steel and may wear down over a period of time and affect the initial torque settings when you tightened it up.

Not hatin', just worried from a safety point of view on both things I mentioned.
    Ride safe, bike looks great!

I've had some feedback from a member with a 650 that used the velocity pod and he said that they had some issues fittting with the frame being closer appearently than the 750, I think he got em in though with a bit of coaxing.
Yeah, as far as wiring maybe a safety switch got unplugged, there is a lot of wires running through the speedo assmbly.

I got my turn signals and seat from TC Bro Choppers. My speedometer is from a older sportster from ebay, along with my pods they are 52mm from ebay aswell lol

Thanks for all the kind words!

There is about an inch or inch and a half of clearance between the fender and the tire. The new shocks are performance shocks and very stiff. I am hoping that I dont have an issue with rubbage...Now what do you mean about my license plate??

Bike is all wired and touched everything to battery and everything works...But the bike still wont turn on and nothing but the horn works. Thoughts? I have been told to check the grounds... I just want the bike done! lol

Ok, about the licence plate, is it made of heavy gauge sheet metal? If so then that type of material could possibly wear away, which means that when you torque the axle nut to specs against the washer that would normally go against the rear housing it could compress the sheet metal.
Ok, I'm having a hard time putting this into words, but the way it's put together back there should only be housing, washer, nut (torqued) and split/cotter pin (new). I think a safer mounting point would be the bottom of the shock if possible.
Don't know if any of this is making sense, it's just that I don't think it's a good idea to use the axle as a mounting point.
If I can come up with a clear explanation later I'll try again (Rum) .

    Cheers, Graham.

For the electrics issue, did you remove the kickstand switch, if the bike thinks that the stand is down it won't start. Also if the clutch is wired it will think the clutch is not pulled in and won't start. These could be all tied in with other relays that other people have mentioned.

I have a question about the wiring I have 1980 XJ650 maxim. where is the clutch relay located? Because my bike wont start in gear with the clutch depressed.

I've run my plate mount the same way as he has pictured with no issues for almost 2 years now.'

it's where the plate mount is designed to be afixed to the bike.

I would say as long as it's not a cheaply made part, there should be no issue. if it's been made out of scrap tin cans in China, then there might be a problem. :)

for your starting issue. are your handle bars painted? i believe your starter switch grounds to the bars. when you hit the button does it do anything? try removing the paint under the switch assembly and give it a try.

Got the bike up and running! Turns out my starter on my handle bars was not grounded lol. Looks like all that is left is to get the clutch adjusted and too adjust the carbs and she will be road ready!!

I had a question about the shocks. Which did you use and how much did it lower the bike? I'm looking for some shocks.

Love the build man, very inspiring. Where did you pick up that seat? Love the look of it and doesn't look too high on the bike.
