I my friend is trying to sell me a 92 XJ600 for $1200. The only problem with the bike is that the engine oil light stays on for about 30seconds after starting. Should I stay away from this?

Doesn't sound very promising at all.

I am not familiar with the 600's. Has it always been that way or has it begun acting this way since her has owned it?

The reason I ask, it sort of sounds like my old car. My car was designed that way though. The oil light would stay on for the first 30 seconds as the system ran its test. After 30 seconds it would shut off if everything was functioning properly.

Its just a thought, I'm sure someone will be along shortly to give you something more concrete...

Did you check the oil level?

    Did you smell the crankcase?

If the oil sensor is bad, that can happen.

can you do a compression test?

Just because the light stays on for a bit is not the reason to run away. What you need to do is determine what the reason is for the light staying on. Once you can narrow that down, you may find that you can fix it for dirt cheap, or you'll find that you'll fix it for lots more money. Either way, you have to determine the root of the light.

Does the start button stick? My 700x does that and the oil light stays on.

I have a 1982 xj650. Just discovered the fuse block is is broken where the main fuse is located. What have others used for a replacement fuse block? Is oem still available or do I have to get an after market one? Henry

You wanted to replace the OEM fuse box anyway. Chacal sells one for the blade type fuses that will fit where your current one goes.

You absolutely do not want an OEM. They are trash. Go with the new blade fuses instead.

The oil "light" is a simple, float-operated LEVEL sensor; NOT a "low oil pressure warning" light.

It's probably just gummy or there could be a minor electrical issue.

Do a compression test; that's way more important than the low oil light.
