I'm seeing some discolorations on the muffler that looks like maybe oil or some organic substance got on it, darkened under the heat & became part of the patina. I don't want to remove or scratch the chrome. How best to remove this stuff

Also, I have a tank to rehab & touch up the paint on before putting it on the XJ650 and I have some paint nicks to fill in on the XJ1100. The 650 looks to be the same standard ruby red and all I need is to remove the dulled finish and get some touch up paint for the chips (some half the width of a dime).
The XJ1100 is sort of a burgundy color and looks to be sun lightened on the top center (actually looks pretty good) but I have 10 or so small chips 1-2mm wide I need to touch up. I looked at Auto-Zone for a color matching metalic touchup paint but didn't find what I needed.

Idears on the chrome & touchup paint?

I use mothers aluminum polish. If something is burned on. Maybe some fine steelwool then polish. don't go nuts with the steel wool. BTW thanks (from the bottom of my paycheck) for reminding me of work with your DEKA batteries. :D

Man, I have both my XJ650 & XJ1100 with DEKA batteries. I just love them, they just don't die under extended loads. If you paid through the nose for them I apologize for not hooking you to the cheaper internet venue. Just find out what # you need and google it. These AGM are the cats A$$.

Chacal is THE true source for parts. I'm looking for a particular color which may be standard red gone fade... I need to match the existing color that is what I bought when I bought this bike...
