Can't believe it happened to me!!

    Every oil change I change the oil filter too.

    I'm careful not to overtighten the filter bolt.

    I use new o-rings every time...etc.

    So here I am with the oil filter bolt galded into the threads. She wont let go to save my butt.

    Anyone have experience, will it come loose if the engine is hot/cold or under some other situation?
    I'm trying not to destroy the bolt.

    I may just have to bite the bullet and drop the exhaust head pipes to get a pipe wrench on it. Which will ruin the bolt head.

    Damn the bad luck!

    PB Penetrating Catalyst is the greatest thing I'd discovered about 3 years ago since sliced bread. Mechanics told me about it while I was a tool man for awhile. And they're right, I've never seen anything assist in breaking frozen bolts loose better then this stuff. I've even broken frozen rusty bolts with it.

    I'd warm the engine, spray it, and let it sit awhile, since it's upside down is the only thing I'm thinking may hurt trying to get a penetrating solution into.

    Also instead of straight strength pressure, a hammering would be better if you have access to an air impact, but turn down it's strength.

    A trusty 'ol hand-held impact driver is also good - you can control the amount of impact a bit better.

    I'd say drop the exhaust so you've got room to work, add some penetrating oil, wait a bit, then go at it with the impact. Should pop loose with minimal or no damage.

    On my very 1st oil change i found the bolt shaved/damaged by the PO, Enough that the socket would slip as soon as i would put any pressure, So i decided to put in a 11mm Socket & hammered it hard but very carefully, In the end what i had was a newly shaved 11mm bolt head which unscrewed well on my 2nd oil change too.

    although this imho should only be tried when nothing work's, in the very last stages i believe.

    Maan - what did you try to use the first time? The reason I ask is more than one person has tried an imperial and mucked up the head of the bolt. I doubt this was what happened to you, as IIRC it was a 12mm in the first place (bit foggy on this detail).

    When I got my bike this spring the bolt had been mangled, dremeled down to a flat protrusion and seized. I ended up getting a new bolt and cover and cutting the thing off.

    yes stock was a 12mm, woot i remember i had tried several 12mm wrenches (allen/torque/ratchet) on the bolt but to no avail, the bolt had missing pieces too so i just put on a 11mm ratchet wrench exactly where i could feel a slight fit on the bolt & hit it quiet a few times considering i was gradually increasing strength just to be careful not to break something, in the end the impact on the ratchet caused the bolt head to shave to a 11mm.
