How do I disable the kick stand switch on my 1982 XJ650 Maxim.I have no spark and I think it might be the switch.I have replaced the TCI box and coils

You can cut the 2 wires and twist them together.

I did it years ago on my bike. I just prefer it never be there. Theres times I want to leave my bike running on the regular kick stand.

Tie the wires to the frame and your GTG.

Thank you.Do you think the stand switch would prevent it from getting spark

I might be wrong, but, I dont think so. That will disable the starter itself. So you wont get spark, but its because the starter wont spin. If it is spinning, its not the switch.

Have you been turning the bike over with no plugs in? Thats can fry your coils.

I think the oil light will light up, but that will be it.

I do hope im not misleading you though. It was 7 years ago that I removed mine.

It could be a combination of things; the bike thinking the kickstand is down and in gear or it thinks it is in gear without the clutch pulled in. It usually won’t turn over if any of these scenarios are in place (but I hear that some do) but it acts just as if you have hit the kill switch. Atleast thats how my XJ750J works.

Forget about the side stand switch being the problem. Either the motor will turn over or it wont. You mentioned you replaced the TCI-is it the correct one? The numbers on it should match the original. Different model XJs' use different TCIs.
If you have a manual, there are troubleshooting tests on where to start. Maybe its just a loose wire in a connector plug somewhere. Electrical problems can be frustrating and time consuming. Theres lots of tests you can perform but youll need a VOM=volt ohms meter. Hang in there & good luck.
