I hate having to drag out the Flitz every couple of weeks and keep polishing the metal.....but it hurts SOOOO good when it's done! 8)
Speaking of float level adjustments, can't one of us brainiacs come up with an easier way? (Holley carbs come to mind......) A sight plug in the bowls would be easy enough, now if we could just figure out the float level thing....... :?

CaptainKirk, what I did last night for setting the float levels is basically what I found in the manual for my XS650. I took the bowls off and flipped the carbs upside down and measured the height of the float on the 2 carbs that seemed to be working fine on my bike. I then went to the other 2 carbs and set them to the same height. Reassembled them and tested. Once I took it all apart and re-cleaned the drain port and put it back together I found that I had almost the exact same levels in each bowl.

Now, for what job I hate the most, currently it's trying to figure out why 2 out of 4 cylinders is not firing now matter what I do (plenty of spark, just no combustion).

ok have u replced ur spark plugs with new ones?
even if u have a spark at the plug, doesnt mean it will work under compression.

I don't like it when somebody winds-up bringing-over a bike that looks like it just got exhumed, ain't even washed and is sitting in the back of a brand new pickup truck, on its flat tires almost off the rims and the well-dressed guy who heard from somebody I was pretty good ... wants me to "Just get it runnin'" so he can sell it and "really don't want to put very much into it; if I know what he means."

setting float bowls is up there, but washing cars/bikes/etc is probably the top of the list.

Well I don't hate that, I hate being 43 and their fathers age.

I also hate trying to pour used oil into a "suitable container" after an oil change. Especially in a stiff breeze!

Given this a lot of thought.

XJ related: Changing grips. Most frustrating job I can think of.

Non-XJ Related: Stucco. Been redoing the stucco around my house. Messy, time consuming, lots of cleanup.

Masonry work. I did it in Phx in the 120 deg summer heat for most of my life as my grandad and my dad were masons.

I have since got rid of all tool that resemble anything that looks like masonry work tools and dont do it even for myself!

Everyone I am told I must do.

Being polite to a particular sister in law so as not to upset my wife heads my list.

Re-fitting the carbs on the xj.
