On my way home I stopped at a light at a 4 way itersection of a 4 lane divided highway. Literally no one around. Waiting in one of two turn lanes to go left. Up next to me pulls up a guy on a sport bike. Newer (500 cc) super sport style bike. Blue bike, blue jacket, helmet, gloves, and of course... shorts.

Kind of gives my maxim x a look over gives me a nod and waits for the light to turn green. (You all know where this is going...)

We get around the turn and both dig in. I was just into second and he's already in third. AND about 3-5 car lengths behind me. We got up to 65ish and eased off. Just cruised for awhile.

A few miles up we are stopped at a light and he lifts up his face shield. "You dusted my ass. What on earth is that!?"

Oh just an 80's yamaha

    Man I love this thing.

I know my daughter's 750 Seca is gonna dust everything else in my stable. She's pretty excited about that.

tbh i dont think he was a very good rider in general... lol.. plus it was a 500 cc which from what i've read aren't very quick. None the less... was fun :)

DuoDs I love the family of xj rider's! Wish you guys were closer we could all go for a cruise.

Not all XJs, but a family of riders nonetheless. Mine is a Honda Shadow VT1100, one son has a Yamaha Virago XV1000, and the other has a Yamaha XS1100.

I think the XS would be the fastest, if all things were equal - but it is heavy (630 lb) and my son is average sized for a 24 y-old. The Seca weighs less (530 lb) and my daughter is quite small. So with a 200 lb swing (bike and rider) it's gonna be interesting.

My daughter is just now getting the Seca on the road. She's excited.

I love group riding, but Utah to Missouri is a little out of the way.

Hahaha I definitely hear ya there. Must be fun having the whole family involved. We'll see if I can get the girlfriend on the back of mine. Let alone on her own ;)

This bike has definitely been a blast. If I am ever in Utah I'll let you folks know :)

It is always fun when someone on a newer rocket realizes that xj's are a bit quicker than your average 80's bar hopper

    Specs:
    A 2005 Ninja 500 does 0-60 in 3.87 and 12.98 @99mph 1/4 mile.
    85 XJ700 Max 0-60 in 3.2 and 11.79 @112mph 1/4 mile.

Some rider error is probably why the race wasn't closer, maybe he realized he was racing someone wearing shorts, haha.

Haha, That is pretty sweet! I know I have gotten condescending looks from many riders, but they never expect it! They are great little bikes, and when riding with my father I can always catch is 750 virago! This bike has some get up and go, and I love to just grab it and growl! haha

The rider makes a big difference in most cases. Knowing how to get the most out of your bike is something many riders don't understand.

Isn't it interesting that a 2005 Ninja 500, with all it's modern technology, is not significantly faster than a 1981 XJ550 (which is only 528cc) and does a 13.1sec 1/4mile at 98mph. I get asked all the time what my XJ is and how it looks and rides like it does if it's really a 31 year old bike.

At least the guy wasn't wearing sandals.
