    Hi All,

I'm new to the boards, just bought my first XJ, an '82 Maxim 750. I want to adjust the valves and I could not find any info on what the tolerances are for the valves on this bike. If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great.

    Thanks,

    Tim

Probably, and the metal/rubber composite "donuts" for the hold down bolts. They hold the cover down; if you don't replace them the new gasket will leak.

    It's all covered here: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=14827.html

BTW; what you're going to be doing is a valve adjustment. A "valve job" is something different altogether, involving removing and disassembling the cylinder head and valves, springs, etc..

You keep the valves adjusted so you don't need to do a valve job.
