So I have been contemplating putting pods on my bike just for ease of carb cleaning and such. I was wondering if anyone has tried using a 13mm breather filter typically used for crankcases? I did the math and it should receive the same amount of air so I shouldn't need to rejet. With my stock airbox there is a .83 in^2 hole in the top of it and the area of 4 13mm breather filters is also about .83 in^2 so it should work because they would both allow the same amount of air in right? I plan on connecting them with a 2" rubber coupling because the diameter of the breather filter is also 2" at the base.

13mm as in about 1/2 inch, yep that'll work

yeah its actually a little bigger like .51 inches but the 13mm pods are almost double the price so I will probably get the 12mm .48 inches

Thanks for your help, I figured it would work but figured I would have someone else weigh in.

Don't destroy or discard the Stock Airbox and Stock Intake elements.
Spend some time researching the Tuning Issues introduced when Air Pods are installed.

There is a distinct possibility that you will not be satisfied with the performance of your bike after switching-over to Pods.

Preserving the Box, Boots, Clamps and such will insure that you will have the option to return to Stock if you discover that the Pods present you with less than desirable performance and seemingly insurmountable difficulties to overcome achieving a state of fine tuning.

Yeah I am definitely going to keep it but I will let you know if the smaller pods work.

Well after figuring out some other issues the 12mm pods didnt work, I think the diameter is right but there isn't enough surface area on the filters to allow enough air in. I think if i would have gotten the bigger 1/2 inch filters like I have on my case they would have sucked enough air. Once I figured they weren't going to work I started drilling holes in the back of each filter to get it to run right and once I got to 1/2 inch the bike ran normal again. So the only restriction would be the filter size.

i'm gonna follow this, and maybe ask that you explain a little more detail in what you're doing? i bought a bike with pods, i've got it tuned pretty good, but it's a hair on the lean side and pilot screws are 3 3/4 out, so if this works i'de be curious as to how you do it. i have K&N filters

Personally, I'm not doing anything but experiments.

Resulting from an experiment I did blowing smoke-rings at the Intake of a Carb hooked-up to a Shop Vac, ... I watched a Vortex form and the Smoke RACE over the Kidney-shaped Atmosphere Vent.

Which led to stuffing a hose in the Vent and sealing the Vent to turbulence.
Which showed me an INCREASED Flow of Washer Fluid out from the Emulsion Tube, ...

    Leading to ...: http://www.xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=35269.html

::: I think one guy has taken-over the experiment, had good results and is working on producing an accessory part that does the trick, :::
