Picked up some euro bend bard at the same time that I got my tires cause the shipping was free.

However, I heard that there are issues with mounting the master cylinder on non stock bars...

Can I swap everything from the stock bars to the euro bars with no problems?

    Thanks!

I've got the same question but didn't know how to word it because I don't know what style of bars I've just aquired. I guess they are euro bend bars.

I didn't realize how much shorter they are. Any less and all my cables would be waaay too cramped. my MC is on quite an angle, I'd say about 25 degrees or so.

My stock mirrors are too close too. I'm thinking about bending the stems to bring them lower and out farther.

It is. But it's a stock 550 master cylinder. The master for the 550s is flatter, not "cranked" for the buckhorn bars on the bigger Maxims (both 550 Seca and Max had the same bar.)

That master will work fine with any single-disc system; it doesn't have the capacity to push a dual disc system.

I believe you need to look for one from a 650 Seca; that bike came with the "Euro-est" stock bars of the bigger bikes, and it had dual discs.

Actually, the 550's use a slightly smaller m/c than the 650 Maxim models.........on the 550's the piston bore is only 13mm (12.7mm) while the 650 Maxim uses the larger 14mm bore.............even though they are both single-disc bikes, the 650 Maxim has a much larger caliper piston that the 550's, and thus a larger capacity m/c bore/piston.

So using the 550 "flat" style m/c on a 650 Maxim is not a good idea!

We have "flat" style 14mm and 16mm (dual-disc bikes) master cylinder available.

Also, when you change the 650 Maxim's to flat bars, you'll need to also replace the clutch hand lever/mirror mount perch to one designed for flatter bars (550's, 650RJ Seca, etc.), so that the left mirror will also stand proud.

So to make sure I understand, to do the conversion, I would need

    - New m/c - off a 650 seca?
    - New clutch lever and mirror mount from a 650 seca?

    Thanks!

Yes, and yes, although the master cylinder can be off any of the XJ-series bikes that use a "flat" big-bore m/c: 650RJ Seca, 650 Turbo, 700's, 750-X.

Clutch lever perches off of 550's, 650RJ Seca, and 750-Police models will work just fine........

Just to be clear on this subject.... the stock MC off a xj650 Maxim would not work on euro bars? If not, why?

Besides other XJ bikes listed above, what would be a good (inexpensive) source for compatible MCs. Sucks too as I just rebuilt my MC. Thanks,

The stock Maxim master cylinder is "cranked" at an angle for the reservoir to sit properly level when installed on the original "buckhorn" bars. When you install it on a signifcantly flatter bar, the angle is way off.
