Hey everyone..........has any one added a fuel gauge to a 1983 750 XJ Maxim? It looks like mine didn't come with one and I could sure use it. I would like to get away from always having to open the tank to see how much I have left.

    Cheers,
    Mike

You would need to find an 82 tank and rig some kind in gauge that would work with the signal that sender would put out.

Many cruisers have no gas gauge - like my Honda Shadow. I just reset the trip odometer and fill up every 100-120 miles.

I can see hohw this is not the best solution though. I mean, it would be nice to actually use my trip odometer to clock trip mileage, but for now that's what I do.

If you get the tank with the sender I have a post on here about making a custom led gauge.

Thanks everyone for confirming my suspicions.......guess my best option is to get a different tank. Anyone know a good place to shop aftermarket stuff for my 83? I'm kinda new to this so any resource would be great.

Ebay is a good place to start. I have bought several used replacement parts for mine on there.

You can mount a sender in your current tank. If you weld or know someone who does. you'd need the hole and the hardware. The hole is the easy part.
