    I use a 82 Maxim 650 (XJ650J) as a daily driver.

Friday I left the house everything was fine I got about 4 miles down the road hit the blinker and heard a pop then for a split second all light went off and the bike hesitated. Then ran fine for the next 95 miles ( to work and back.)

Today (Monday), I left the house and all was fine. At the 2 mile mark I decided as a test to not use the blinker and make my turn. When I hit the brakes the headlight flashed and that was it. About 1 mile down the road the turn signal work like normal. About 30 miles later, big trouble. First I noticed no blinkers at all (no lights), next I noticed when clutching the tac stopped working (released the clutch tack jumped back up and acted normal, clutched again and it stopped until I released the lever.) When I stopped for gas I found no brake light and no neutral light.

Ok I understand I have an electrical problem but where do I start? And how could engaging the clutch kill the tac?

    Thanks for the help Shleprock

    Welcome!!

do you still have the original fusebox?

the original fuse boxes were prone to failure.

many upgrade to a newer, blade-type style fuse block.

OK I have the original Fuse block and will change it. Can the fuse block cause the Tac issue?

    Thanks Shleprock

As well as the fuses, check you haven't got a (intermittent) short against or inside the headlamp bowl - check for chafed wire etc - or two wires rubbing together.

    Thanks all
Here is what I have found out so far.

    1) One fuse was open (looked good but measured open)
    2) Fuse block is starting to melt at the base of the open fuse (going to change the fuse block to the newer stile mini fuses)
    3) All 4 turn signal light have corrosion (2 severely corroded and rusted, 2 just starting to corrode, P.O. did not get the seals back in place after changing bulbs)
    4) Using my schematic I found the open fuse supplies the power to my brake switches, warning lights, horn, and Tac. The blinkers look to get there power from the warning light and are grounded through the switch or relay (not completely sure which one my schematics did not show the relay)

So I will be replacing the fuse block and the blinker lights first and see if all issues go away.

    Thanks again Shleprock

    FYI
I replaced the fuse block this weekend and replaced the marker lights. No problems on the ride in.

    Thanks for the help.
