A service manual is probably gonna be your best bet. Use the search feature, someone might have done a write up on a motor tear-down.... but i strongly recommend the service manual....

Replacing the head gasket can be replaced with the motor in the frame, however its better & easier to do with the motor out. The chain comes loose after removing the cam sprockets & cams, then find some means of holding it up so it doesnt fall inside, or then youll be in a world of hurt. jmilliken is right to use a manual cuz its lists procedures that must be followed. Good luck.

You need a manual so when you put the head back on you don't bend the valves.
When taking the head off you need to have all the timing marks lined up. You then remove the cam chain tensioner. Unbolt the cams and the cam chain guide. Slide the cams out and I used a bungee cord to hold the chain. The manual will show you where all of the bolts and nuts are. (some under the head facing down.) remove the head and don't loose the chain down into the crankcase. Have the head and valves checked out by your local machine shop. There has to be a reason why the gasket let go. My head was warped and they had to machine it flat so the new gasket would seal. They also put new valve seals in and just lapped the valves because they wher ok. Depending on miles and condition of your valves they may need to be machined.
