So I read on here that the stock MC on my maxim's large handlebars will not work on flatter bars. Can someone explain why? Something to do with the angle? Is there another model of xj with a MC that would work so I can keep my eye out for one? Thanks.

The angle on the inside ports is pretty severe. Leaning the bike to the right pretty much leaves it exposed unless you really top it off. Plus the mirror hole is at a really bad angle to. Pretty much useless to use as a mirror mount. I run the stock master on mine but its only temporary. I just used it to mock everything up. It does work however.

yea it does work and the stock mirror holes are useless,
I just put on some end bar mirrors and use the stock MC just fine.
