Hello from Orlando, been perusing the forums for a while now since I got this xj700x.
It was in really rough condition, and still is, but am going through it thoroughly with the wonderful help from this site. Have rebuilt brakes front and back, brought valves in spec (bike is at 21K, no history), replaced wiring harness (old one looked a two year old hd taken the scissors to it and tried to repair it with duct tape), replaced tires front and back, acquired air box and battery box, and just finished replacing clutch plates. I also had to replace the ignition (it looked like a hammer had been taken to it). Mostly I have the carberator and fuel delivery system left to attend to.

Welcome to the site. Looks and sounds like you are doing the right thing by checking everything over before you ride. Good luck.

I came to the realization soon after stumbling upon this site, soon after I acquired this bike, that I had been very foolish with my other rides in not maintaining them as I should have. As a result, I quickly changed my plans for just doing the minimum to get the bike operational to doing a thorough going over of the bike before riding it.
This site has been invaluable in guiding my efforts. Thanks are needed to all the members that offer their insight, experience and opinions to those of us that are still learning.
