Just joined up...as i just picked up an 81 maxim 650 for $500 running very well. the thing is i like the cafe feel and look more then the bobber look and i have a guy whose got a 82 seca parts bike. i want to know what is different if anything from the 81 maxim frame/triple trees to the 82 seca. im looking at swapping the rear wheel to the seca wheel, the seat, the side covers and the tank over to the seca tank. drag bars are on their way, and i was looking at trying to get the front forks off the seca for the twin brake setup...is this all possible rather easily? i can weld...but i wanna skip major frame mods.
    any help is appreciated!

heres how it sits now, came with jardine pipes whose baffles were removed....the stock air box was useless with a big crack and the boots wouldnt even fit over the carbs....pods on the way. it does run lean, can hear it pop under decel, but only one side...maybe just have to sync the carbs up.

    650 0r 750 seca?
    if its the 750
mount points for the side covers are different
rear of the seca tank is higher so you would need to mod the 650 seat to make it fit
frame angle from the tank area into the seat is different
forks can be swapped if you take everything including the triple trees
i think the steering head is at a different angle and the axle mount is in a different spot which will change the geometry of your front end but i'm not sure in what way

probably easier to use the maxim to fix the seca to get the look you want

I'm not versed in the 650 seca never had one in my hands before but yes I think so the seca frame has a flatter top line than the maxim does.

i dont actually own it... the guy was willing to trade his its tank, plastics and seat for my tank, and it doesnt have a title....this bike is already registered and insured and rideable. i think ill be plenty happy with plans i have for it...i feel like just chopping the rear fender and putting drag bars on it will make it look totally different and make me happier with the looks of the maxim.

As far as i know the tanks should swap without problem between an 82 seca and an 82 maxim. I believe the 81 is the same, you should look into it more before getting discouraged.

I am going for a sligjtly cafe look if you want to search for my thread, update soon.
